Weekly Winners – The Cold and the Hot Edition

Oct 23, 2011 | Paper Heart Camera, Photography, Scavenger Hunt Sunday, Simple Things, Weekly Winners

All taken w/ Canon Rebel XS.

As the lead-in states it was a see-saw week.  Very cold temperatures to start, ending with a gorgeous couple of days. We took advantage of one of the days to go to the zoo.  You’ll have to go to my Flickr account to see ALL of those pics – only a couple are here.

1. Words
Words are things; and a small drop of ink,
Falling like dew upon a thought, produces
That which makes thousands, perhaps millions, think.
~Lord Byron (Don Juan)

More than Words

2. Under
I’m eighteen years behind in my ironing. ~Phyllis Diller
[flickr id=”6270890265″ thumbnail=”medium” overlay=”true” size=”small” group=”” align=”center”]
It’s my ironing board. Yup. Figured it would make for some interesting lines and shadows. Only light is daylight and a flashlight used to cast shadows for fun.

Photography love...

3. Orange
Orange is the happiest color. ~Frank Sinatra

We fancy men are individuals; so are pumpkins; but every pumpkin in the field goes through every point of pumpkin history. ~Ralph Waldo Emerson
[flickr id=”6270889887″ thumbnail=”medium” overlay=”true” size=”small” group=”” align=”center”]

4. Fly
I had a picture of a bird, but I didn’t want to go typical. I loved the jellyfish…floating and soaring through the water on pure instinct alone.
[flickr id=”6270890809″ thumbnail=”medium” overlay=”true” size=”small” group=”” align=”center”]

Another one for a-typical. A leaping lemur mid-flight. I have a much better one in my archives, but I didn’t want to dig this week.

5. Always look on the bright side
The secret of contentment is knowing how to enjoy what you have, and to be able to lose desire for things beyond your reach. ~Lyn Yutang
[flickr id=”6270892247″ thumbnail=”medium” overlay=”true” size=”small” group=”” align=”center”]

It was cold, dark, and rainy outside – but bright, warm, and cozy inside.

A Simple Thing:
I have two simple things this week. I simply could not chose.  First is my girls – who asked me to take a picture of them at the zoo and posed so beautifully for me.  The second is a zebra picture I took. It’s almost SOOC – I just had to adjust the exposure a tiny bit. Otherwise, no cropping or anything. It makes me so happy at it’s gorgeous simple complexity that I had to add it into my simple things.

      @Cedar,

      Aren’t those eyelashes amazing?! I love the way the face lines lead into the body lines…it was such a shock to pull the pictures off my camera and see how well that one came out. My kids were so distracting I wasn’t sure I was able to get any shots at all ~LOL~

      @Tara R.,

      Thank you so much Tara! It was a gorgeous day for the zoo. I just wish we’d gone to the tiger habitat before it was so crowded I might have been able to add some amazing tiger shots too! Ah well, I’m thrilled with what I have anyway 😀

      Thanks! It just hit me as I was looking for something to shoot ‘under’ when it was to cold and rainy to get anything outside…and the minute I saw the ironing board I knew that was it!

      Haha…I’ve never been into animal prints…but all of a sudden I’m loving zebra. Hubby & I are talking about using that when we re-style our bedroom. We just love it 😀

      @Patrice P,

      I’m glad I could make you think! I figured it would be a difficult one to decipher. I’m just glad hubby didn’t walk in while I was setting this up for the photo shoot. He would have thought I’d lost my marbles.

      @Denise,

      LOL!! I sing that song every time I see Lemur island at the zoo. I have some awesome shots of them leaping and dancing in my archives at flickr. All the animals were a little lazy this weekend – so for real good lemur shots are archived 😀

      Thank you 😀 I love the zebra shot. It’s one I’m exceptionally proud of.
