Air Frying is the Compromise We All Love

*This post is sponsored by Phoenix Trading Company. I was given an air fryer in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts are my own.*

In the world of home appliances, I have both too many, and too few. Recently I got a new kitchen appliance that has brought about some good.

See, we have had a bit of a problem in our marriage since day 1.

I LOVE fried food.

Erik hates it.

So some of my favorite meals, he only picks at. He doesn’t like the grease, slime, general heaviness of fried anything.

IMG_20160712_181256590When I was approached to try out this Air Fryer, I jumped at the chance.

What better compromise could this nearly-14 years married couple make than air frying?

No greasy food, just pure taste. At least, that was the hope. Hubs wasn’t so sure once he heard about it, and saw the thing.  But, I persisted.

I made the one meal I love to make often, and hubs has always liked the taste of, but not the frying.

Breaded lemon chicken (just call me Debra Barone).

IMG_20160712_181514433I did everything the same as I always did, but instead of fighting dropping it in a pan, I set it in a basket, spritzed it with some olive oil spray and slid it into the cooker. Ten minutes later, they were done.

Bonus points I didn’t even think of?

  1. I didn’t have to worry about the chicken being cooked through in the middle. Normally in oil I either get the breading burned, and the inside isn’t cooked…or vice versa. In the air fryer every single piece was perfection, from the thickest to the thinnest.
  2. Oil burns be gone!  See, I have a bad habit of getting burned by everything I cook in oil or in its own grease (hello bacon, my delicious nemesis). Holy cow is it nice to be able to not worry about that. My hands, arms, and even my face are free from grease splatter.
  3. If I was just cooking for one or two of us, I could have slipped our whole meal in one basket as their cooking time was the same. However, there were four of us, so I had to spread it out. Still, for a quick lunch, I’m all over this.
  4. It’s a smaller kitchen appliance that can either sit on your counter, or slip into a cabinet should you have a tiny kitchen with no counter space like me. 😉
  5. Did I mention the no oil thing? A little spritz of olive oil instead of sitting in pools of oil will help keep me out of that plus size clothing 😉
  6. My husband eats the food. Scarfed it down, actually.

IMG_20160712_181239984So we had a delicious meal. Perfectly cooked chicken, potatoes and cauliflower. A meal that everyone ate up, and turned out to be easy as pie.

Oooh, pie. That’s something I should make next. Little mini pies in no time flat.

You in with me?  I can help you with that super easy.

Because I’m sharing a giveaway for a Todd English 1500W 3.3 qt Touchscreen Air Fryer w/ Filter & Accessories !!!

Seriously, you want in. Soon as I get that pie recipe done, I’ll share it with you. I’m on it tonight.

About Phoenix Trading Company (PTC):

First, we’re not in Phoenix, Arizona. Never have been (we’re in Boston). Our name refers to the

mythical bird, the Phoenix, which is reborn to soar again. Our clothes and other products are

sort of like that. We buy large volumes of out-of-season, overstock and clearance designer

merchandise from national retailers and TV shopping channels, then pass the savings to

you—on average offering our goods at 60% below retail. And by the way, the pictures of shoes

and clothing you see on our site are the actual items that you’ll get in the mail. Nothing photo-

shopped here.

People seem to like us. We started in 2001 in 700 square feet subleased from a machine shop,

and have grown to be one of eBay’s top three women’s clothing sellers. We’re also an eBay top-

rated plus seller. Not that we’re bragging. It’s just true.

There is something we’re kind of proud of, though: A third of our workforce are people who are

housebound, either through physical disabilities or childcare responsibilities, and who would

otherwise not be able to have a job. And honestly, we couldn’t function without them.

So, that’s us in a nutshell. Phoenix Trading Company, bringing you style and savings at the click

of a mouse.

Having a Disney Vacation Planner is…Free?! FREE!!

A big thank you to Jenn Naas for visiting today to discuss what she does as a Disney Vacation Planner!  I haven’t had the pleasure of using her services yet, but I’ve certainly peppered her with questions since our introduction! Our most recent trips to Disney have made us addicts, so we’re already dreaming and planning. There is a giveaway at the bottom of the post so stay tuned!

My family LOVES Disney World. I’m not sure if I used that word strong enough so let me bold it- LOVES Disney World!! About eight years ago my husband had a work trip in Orlando so we decided that I would join him, we’d bring our (then) two kids along and try out Disney. Our love affair began then and has been in fast forward ever since.

image2

There is this wonderful thing that happens when you take a Disney vacation with your kids, you cry tears of happiness seeing Disney through their eyes (it’s ok to admit it- we all do it). You leave all the cares of the real world behind while being transplanted into this magical, happy place you never want to leave. I am not kidding- If you don’t believe me, ask around, you’ll see.

(Parade time is a MUST for my family- I never watch the parade though, I watch my kids watch the parade)

(Parade time is a MUST for my family- I never watch the
parade though, I watch my kids watch the parade)

Many families love Disney vacations, yet with increasing costs, new technology, and the limitless amount of information available on the internet, planning a magical family vacation can be a bit overwhelming.

image5

First time guests and seasoned Disney-goers can both benefit from the advice of a Disney expert.  This is where a certified Disney Planner comes in!  I love nothing more than creating perfect, magical vacations for families and adding my own pixie dust along the way. Best of all… my services are FREE! Yes, you read that right, my services cost you zip a dee do dah zilch!

image3

Too good to be true? Not in this case! Disney pays planners like me so you don’t have to! I then get to work with you to find the best dates, resorts, and packages for your family within your budget. I take time to build an itinerary to include dinner with princesses or pirates, fastpasses to meet Anna and Elsa or for the new Seven Dwarfs Mine train coaster, and so much more.  All of this is included in the packages and no surprises.

And it’s not only Disney parks. Disney Cruise Line takes you to magical locations like the Bahamas, the Caribbean, Hawaii and even the Mediterranean.  Disney service at sea… it doesn’t get much better.

By now, you may be wondering about some of the benefits of using a Disney Planner. Let’s start with all the time-consuming, stressful parts.  Like waking up at 6:00am to snag the perfect reservation at Cinderella’s castle for your little princess. Constantly worrying if there is a better deal available. You leave those things to me so you only have to worry about how many sets of Mickey ears you need to budget for. The questions are endless and I’m here to answer each and every one and I’m excited to work for you to ensure you have the most magical vacation.

When you call Disney directly to book your vacation, you will begin chatting with a wonderful Disney Cast member trained to book your trip and move on to the next phone call. Sometimes you won’t even speak with a Disney employee at all but rather a 3rd party costumer service rep. While these employees are wonderful people, they can’t give advice or opinions. I am lucky enough to be the personal side of Disney that can and will give opinions. Not to mention you will work with me the entire way not some new person each time you call. I get to know you on a personal level and can easily adjust your trip to best fit your needs.

For those seasoned Disney families that feel they don’t need any help- a good planner will allow you all the control you want, but take over the parts you don’t AND sprinkle a little extra pixie dust as a thank you for working with us! As a special bonus for cruisers, many planners are able to offer you onboard credits that you can spend while on the ship on just about anything! This is one big bonus you are unable to receive when booking yourself! Don’t forget Disney is ALWAYS changing and having someone on your side to let you know all the new and updated happenings is always a bonus!

Extensive knowledge of different Disney resorts, the theme parks, pricing trends, and crowd patterns makes Disney planners’ knowledge invaluable to our clients.  This comes from experience, frequent trips to the Theme Parks and on Disney Cruises, and love for the product.

My favorite part of this job is getting to know each client and what will make their trip special. I want my clients to leave for their vacation knowing that they got the best price possible and feeling prepared for their experiences – whether they are at land or at sea.

Travels with Gannon & Wyatt, Review & Giveaway!

Travels with Gannon and Wyatt- BotswanaWe LOVE reading in this house.

I mean really, REALLY love it.

The day I told the girls I had brand new books for them to read was a party and a half. They were so excited, and when we cracked open the books from the “Travels with Gannon & Wyatt” series it was all over.

I mean, it’s ANIMALS!

The girls immediately dove in and scanned for pictures first, because the pictures of the live animals (the alligator was a big hit for our little alligator), and they couldn’t wait to see every one of them.

Once they’d settled down we sat down to read.

The stories are told in journal form, with separate entries by both Gannon & Wyatt, which make for short “chapters” perfect for my ADD readers.

I also love that each of the entries start with a great learning opportunity (or 2).  They list the location – with a longitude and latitude. Temperatures and weather listings are there too.  These gave me and the girls some great chances to talk about what these things are, and find a map (~cough~ or a computer ~cough~) to look them all up. Of course, there’s all the animals, which my kids LOVE.  Oh, and at the end, there’s a few pages with spots for journal entries.  The girls are dying to take a trip to the zoo to use them!

Kennedy got to read first and eagerly dove in, and by the time she was home, she was dragging Molly over to join her.

Hearing Kennedy say words like “Botswana” and “Kalahari Dessert” at her young age, is so much fun. She’s having fun, she’s reading, and she’s learning.

Kennedy has taken a shining to the Botswana book.  It has all the animals she loves. Elephants, alligators, rhinos and cheetah’s.

We love sitting down and devouring chapters as fast as she can.

I have a feeling these books are going to be long lasting around here, so much to read and learn, and the older they get, the more they’ll understand!

As you can see below, the girls HIGHLY recommend the books and want you to win a set of your own. (Look below the picture for how to win)

Gannon & Wyatt have a Facebook Page and a Twitter account you should really follow to keep up on their latest adventures!!

Indy’s Children’s Museum Haunted House – Giveaway!

I am, without a doubt, a big ol’ fraidy cat.

Growing up (and, admittedly, even today) I can’t watch a scary movie for nothing. I have never, and I mean never-ever-ever, been to a Haunted House before this week.

Then I got an invite to The Children’s Museum’s 50th Anniversary “Time Warp” Haunted House – celebrating 50 years of Haunting the museum.

And I went.

The “50 years of fear” includes the addition of 3-D glasses (which you don’t NEED to enjoy it if 3D’s bother your eyes)…and takes you on a journey through time.  You enter through the elevator and the disorientation begins in the tunnel, taking you all the way back to the 1960’s…and the Upside Down Room featured in TCM’s first Haunted Houses. Then it’s onto the 70’s with a creepy basement and then my favorite room of the whole haunted house (see if you can guess what that is from my pictures below).  You’ll fly into the 80’s with neon clothes, a horrifying Chucky doll (scared me the mostest) and a pinball room that I’m assured in the scare hours is extra freaky. If you’re a child of the 90’s you’ll be treated to horrific flashbacks of internet dial up tones and “You’ve got mail” while surrounded by cables, wires and reminders of the terrifying reality of Y2k…and the witches take us on a further treat by sending us into the terrifying future 50 years ahead, before finally sending us back to the present.

The Children’s Museum Haunted House is a great treat for any age, especially with the new “Choose Your Scare Options.”  Here’s how you can get tickets, choose your scare, then it’s onto the giveaway and pictures!!

A Simple Gesture & a Hallmark Recordable Book Giveaway

The past two weeks have been overwhelming for us. With Denver in the hospital, and then home but on IV meds, life turned on its head.

Even when we were home between the meds, and trying to return to normal life, everything about our life has been in upheaval. I’ve had to look for a job again, there have been activities for school and life in general is in a state of flux. There’s been little time to sit and regroup and just relax.

In the past two weeks there has been just one thing holding me together.  My friends, my connections, and the simple gestures they’ve made to show they care.

Just yesterday, at the end of the chaotic two weeks, I opened my mailbox to find junk mail – and one envelope addressed to me.  Inside was a simple card with a lovely handwritten note.  It had come from the Hallmark Team.  See, about a week before Denver went into the hospital I was a part of the group of bloggers that went to their Indianapolis Stop on the Hallmark Tour.

It reminded me of the importance of a simple card.  I’m the first to admit that I’ve become a digital being – I prefer email and text to phone and mail.

But the touching gesture of a hand-written note inside a card meant so much.  Imagine how much it could mean to a member of your family, or a good friend, to receive the added touch of a card with a handwritten note meant just to them. This card from Hallmark moved me to tears – you could leave your friend a blubbering mess for the same gesture.

During the Hallmark Tour event we were reminded of the importance of just telling someone what you want them to know. Tell them you love them. Tell them ‘thank you’. Tell them to be strong, that this will pass, that you admire them, or just that you think about them every day.  We all shared our stories, what we want to tell, and at points it became a room full of tears.  Most especially during the video that kicked off the event:

So please, tell someone today what you think they should know.

[flickr id=”8191555068″ thumbnail=”small” overlay=”true” size=”small” group=”” align=”left”] On behalf of Hallmark I’m excited to offer this giveaway of their recordable book “Mom & Me”.

Inside the book is a wonderful little story of a Momma Kangaroo and her child, a series of questions that your child can answer, and you can record!  You can capture your child’s adorable little voice as it is today, and hear their unique and creative answers to simple questions!

[flickr id=”8191552892″ thumbnail=”small” overlay=”true” size=”small” group=”” align=”right”]I can’t wait until my girls open this gift on Christmas morning and I can start recording their answers.  Questions like “What do you think Mom does when you’re not around?” and “What do you like to do to make Mom laugh?” should bring fun and inventive answers from my two little story-tellers.

Entering is easy, just leave a comment telling me what simple gesture you want to do this Christmas to tell someone you love them.

Indiana Fever – Great Night & a Great Deal for YOU

On Saturday night I got to take in the wonderful experience of an Indiana Fever game.  Never having been a huge basketball fan (what separates me from the true Hoosiers), I mostly signed up for the amazing company of the Indy Geek Girls.

Turns out, the WNBA is a lot of fun!!  The women play hard, the games are intense but go by fast, and the Fever LOVES families!!

For the Geek Girls, the Fever were marvelous and put us up in the Legends Suite.* From there we had a fantastic view of the court – or the numerous TV’s that were showing every minute of the action.  We also had seats around the suite if we wanted to get the arena effect.

Those that say the WNBA is “just” a girls league really needs to go to a game.  These women bring it like you wouldn’t believe!  I think it’s the first time I’ve enjoyed a basketball game.  The women that do this job do it because they love it.  They don’t make millions of dollars like the big name men – in fact many of them have to work the off season playing in other countries!  The amount of commitment and dedication they have for the game made me appreciate the sport like I haven’t before.

It’s something I would take my girls to, so they could see what it means to do something you love.  No matter what the critical men say about what you can do.

The tickets for a game aren’t that expensive.  Even better?  For their Saturday games they have family night – where for just $13 you get your ticket, Pepsi, chips, a hot dog, and a T-shirt! What’s better than that?  Every ticket at Banker’s Life is a great seat, so it’s worth it.

And just to prove that point, the Fever is offering all of you a tremendous discount to come to their next game.

For the June 8th game against the Connecticut Sun, you can get two tickets almost free!  All you have to do is pay the $.75 per ticket TM fee.  That’s $1.50 to go see an amazing game!  Mom’s & Dad’s – this is a great chance to take your daughter out and see what the WNBA is all about!

To cash in on this amazing deal just go here, and select the June 8th game:

www.wnba.com/fever/offer.html

If June 8th doesn’t work for you, please remember the family nights.  The remaining Saturday games are: 6/16, 7/7, 8/18 and 9/1.

One last way to save some money – Tuesdays and Thursdays are two for one ticket prices on all levels.  My recommendation? Snap up July 10th (a noon game) while you can.  It’s Freddy Fever’s birthday – and he brings all his mascot friends along for the fun!  It’s perfect for the kids, who doesn’t love to see mascots roaming everywhere?

So now go and pick up some tickets. I promise, you won’t be disappointed – and that’s saying a lot coming from someone that would never watch a basketball game until now.

*~*~*

*Disclaimer: Indiana Fever put us up in the Legends Suite.  We heard the words of the wonderful team of leaders for the Fever, we ate food, had drinks, and excellent conversation. All opinions in here are my own. I truly was impressed with the whole organization.
