My heart pounds in my ears. Shaking hands check my watch again. What is taking her so long today? Did she know? How could she know? I still have twenty minutes before they’d call.
There. Her car’s pulling out of the driveway, and I duck back behind the neighbor’s house. Wait just two minutes now. Make certain she is gone. I won’t get caught. I haven’t yet.
The minute it’s clear I head back inside the house. I make the requisite phone call, grab a book and settle in for a day without torment. They’ll never know I’ve ditched school.

~~Disclaimer: My entry for this week’s 100 words may or may not be based on true events. The image may or may not be of the real school involved in the alleged event. The perpetrator may or may not have been caught after 4 successful alleged ditchings. The perpetrator may or may not have been me. The alleged ditching’s may or may not have occurred because of regular torment by classmates. Middle School kids + one geekish girl w/ braces and bad acne = combustible situations.

This is great. I only ditched school once and I didn’t enjoy it, so I never did it again. I hated not knowing if we woud get caught at any given moment.
Middle School was harsh for both of my kid too. This entry brought back some of the pre-teen angst. Well done.
Oh nice!! I didn’t start ditching school until college, when I knew nobody would be calling my parents.
Great post. Well done.
Very sneaky! I like this one – the worry to start and the wonderful relaxation when everything seems to have worked out right.
Oh boy, that brings back memories. One year of middle school I ditched school quite a bit. Had to hide out and wait for my parents to leave for work. I always picked a different place, sometimes right in the house! I eventually got caught, but I did indeed enjoy those quiet days at home by myself, lazing around reading, napping, eating, whatever.
LOL. Thanks, Cheryl. I skipped 5 times and got 5 days detention for it. I remember those moments all too clearly 😉
Ugh, Middle School was the worst, Tara!! I even have another post about the horrors of middle school up at my main blog. It’s very sad. *lol* Ditching ws definitely my ‘rebel’ moment.
I ditched plenty in college too, Vanessa *G* Middle School was just the worst for me…but I got ‘scared straight’ for a little while at least. I didn’t ditch again until Senior year when it was acceptable 😉
🙂 Thanks Aurora Lee!! I’m glad I was able to capture that and express it properly 😀
V.V…weren’t those days away from the crap-storm of middle school fantastic? To this day I LOVE the peace and quiet of an empty house. How I ever ended up with 3 crazy kids instead of being a hermit living alone away from society is beyond me!!
