100 Words – Depth

Aug 27, 2011 | 100 Words, Challenge, Writing

And after far too long a delay I’m back into the 100 Words challenge. It feels good to be using my writing blog again. Writing Challenges will be more frequent I hope. As well as actual blog posts as I begin the writing process again with some new novels – and continue the editing process on the old ones.

Now, onto the challenge for this week. The prompt word was Depth and the first thing it triggered was the phrase ‘depths of madness’…and so I ran with it to bring about this submission.

****

All that’s left is a thin strand.

All that ties me to the now.

You are not enough to keep me here, you never were.

You can’t turn off the chaos all around.

Tomorrow the sun won’t rise.

Tomorrow I may not either.

Yesterday is dead and gone.

Yesterday will never return.

Death couldn’t save me.

Death runs from me.

Meant for suffering.

Meant for damnation.

Don’t you hear them too?

Don’t you even care?

Down I sink into the dark.

Down into the depths of madness.

Never will I see the light again.

Never to be saved from me.

I really liked the delivery. Capitalizing each word and making each sentence it’s own statement was brilliant. You did a really good job.

the last line really put a stamp on this. i like how grim it is, but it’s also told very clearly and with punch. never will i see the light again is quite a set up for the end, too.

Thanks Ed. Yesterday was a very bad day and it’s always nice to use your writing to vent sme of that…and this did it so well. Glad you liked the ending…it’s sometimes the hardest to be saved from ourselves.

This is really, really good! It’s so intense but so open to interpretation that it means something different to everyone!! To me it totally summed up those ‘black hole day’s ‘ and I am really glad you found a way to put my thoughts into words. Especially words that flow so well into one another. You’ve practically created an oasis of emotion!
Btw thank you for the comment on mine- it made me smile. Alot 🙂

Thank you very much, Amara!! I sort of got lost into the words & the emotions so I’m glad I was able to capture that for you 😀

It’s like a staccato of phrases coming at you fast and furious. A fierce outpouring of emotions.

Thank you, Tara. It poured out of me as fast as it came at you. Before I knew it I was on my last 5 words.

Those dark places of the mind – you capture the very real and visceral feeling of that.

Thanks, VV. It wasn’t where I expected to go, but I’m still glad with how it ended up.
