Yet another crazy week w/ sick kids everywhere. Still, I had little fun with a couple of the Scavenger Hunt Prompts.

This week was banned books week. I was shocked to see on the books listed for 2011 the book “Speak.” It’s a stunning novel. I did this picture in honor of it. Surprisingly it’s my favorite this week…and I never say that about a self portrait.
I have survived. I am here. Confused, screwed up, but here. So, how can I find my way? Is there a chain saw of the soul, an ax I can take to my memories or fears? ~Melinda Sordino (Speak – Laurie Halse Anderson)

2. Brown

I could think of no better way to capture brown than with these brown badges of honor on my son’s uniform. Being in scouts has made him a better young man.

A Simple Thing:
Another linkup I found that fit w/ a picture I took & loved this week, but didn’t fit into the SHS theme. It’s the “Simple Things” link up over at Simple as That. Every week, if I can, I like to buy the flowers in the half-off bin at Krogers. They still have life in them, and they don’t hurt my wallet as much. This flower burst open part way through the week & has kept us all smiling with its vibrant beauty.

Scavenger Hunt Sunday is run by the beautiful Ashley. Head on over to see more Hunters.
Your photographs are beautiful. I especially love the flower at the end. Wonderful shot…
Lou
@LouBelcher,
Thanks so much, Lou! Taking photographs is my second love 🙂
Beautiful set – your selfie is really moving.
@Ashley Sisk,
Thank you, Ashley. The selfie was a last minute substitution for my originally planned book-inspired shot that fell through. In the end, I’m glad this is the one that made it 🙂
My favourite is your “Brown” photo . . . the way the shades of brown blend into shadows is beautiful. I love the splash of the orangy-brown colour in the top right section, too. Also loving the “IngenuiTea” . . . the loose tea floating in the amber liquid is very cool.
@Andrea Dawn,
Thanks! Today is my sons Court of Honor where he’s getting his next level in Scouts. First thing I thought of when I saw “Brown” was his uniform. I took 3 or 4 pictures, but like you I just loved the wat this one turned out.
I love my IngenuiTEA mugs. The only problem is that they don’t fit on my big wide mouthed mugs 😉 Oh well, it’s still got my tea in it. Yum. Strawberry 😉
These are so creative…and I love that lily!
@Dina @ 4 Lettre Words,
Thanks!! Believe it or not that Lily is still wide open in my kitchen. It makes me happy 🙂
The portrait is wonderful. I need to look for the book, ‘Speak.’ It has to be something great to inspire such a powerful photo.
@Tara R.,
It’s a YA book. My friend in Germany recommended it to me. I’m so glad she did 🙂
Your takes are so SO wonderful! I loved all your quotes. Your sons uniform was such a beautiful shot! AND who doesn’t love Toy story?!!
@Melanie,
Thanks a lot Melanie!! I had a lot of fun w/ the prompts this week.
And you’re right. Who doesn’t love Toy Story? (although I won’t get into my disappointment over the end of TS3)
WOW! These are some great pics!! I love the “brown” pic – very cool. I hope my boys get into scouts when they are big enough 🙂 Very cute Toy Story pic, too! LOL 🙂
@House of Woyaks, And thanks for stopping by!!
@House of Woyaks,
Thanks!! The Brown pic is one of my favorites this week 🙂 Tonight was his Court of Honor for his promotions and merit badges. Scouts has been so good for him!!
I love the brown picture because it honors your son. I’m not an artist so I hesitate to mention any photographic techniques or color combinations, but I can say I love a mama who loves her son.
I came by here to see what redefining perfect was and I’m glad I did.
Lots of beauty here,
Dawn
I love the flower shot, but I think your selfie is such a powerful image.
Great set!
That first one made me giggle and smile.
I don’t know anything about ingenuiTEA, but I love the name!
beautiful images! thank you so much for linking up with the simple things. 🙂 I hope you got your name in the draw for the simple things anniversary giveaway! 🙂 closes tonight. see you again this Sunday! Rebecca
