After reading the excited, bouncing off the email, energetic note of welcome before school even started I took to twitter and commented that Kennedy had a “perky” teacher and that I might be a wee bit frightened.
The feeling continued when the first day of school came with another bouncy email and a mass of papers to fill out about Kennedy – her personality, strengths, weaknesses, etc. More than any of my kids have brought home from any teachers.
Of course I got to go to Kennedy’s “meet-the-teacher” night while Erik went to Molly’s – so I got to meet the bubbly teacher myself. She didn’t disappoint with her very friendly and enthusiastic intro into the world of 1st grade.
I think I became a little more frightened.
Then yesterday happened.
The first time Kennedy’s notorious temper reared its ugly head.
I knew about it pretty darn quick. The teacher emailed me withing an hour or so of it happening. We communicated through the day, and I was able to deal with it when Kennedy got home.
I was scared of the perky, bouncy teacher…until I realized that it could lead to a year of excellent communication and possibly a better way to deal with Kennedy’s anger issues.
Embrace the perky.
I know I will. 🙂

Then the drought hit.
The insatiable, undying, intense heat.
Every day over 90*, starting in the 70’s.
So blasted hot.
Too hot to run without passing out.
Finally we had a break. Cool mornings.
So for the past 3 weeks I’ve been back at it.
I still can’t sustain a run for a long time and I’m sort of speed-bumping my way through that c25k thing. My muscles are weeping, my body is tired – but I can see that finish line now.
In 25 days come hell or high water – I’ll be running a 5k.
I just hope I come out the other end. 😉

[flickr id=”7665948176″ thumbnail=”small” overlay=”true” size=”small” group=”” align=”left”]The new school year began a week ago.
We didn’t get the early meeting with the teacher we’d expected.
We did get a phone call the day before. A 15-30 minute talk with her teacher about Molly and what to expect and where she should sit and what to expect and how she’d been at home (a bit bonkers in anticipation of the change). The call went well, I think we got things across and I liked her over the phone.
Molly has been…
Happy.
Busy (read: a bit ADD).
Talkative (?!!!?).
There hasn’t been (so far) any of the violent out-breaks of last year. No major throwing of fits. There’s a 7 year old’s attitude, but nothing in the extreme ranges.
I don’t know if its having a teacher with a different personality. Or now 2 years experience under her belt. Or what….
But so far so good.
Fingers crossed that it keeps up.
Now if only she hadn’t brought home the cold virus ~achoo~

[flickr id=”7665964374″ thumbnail=”small” overlay=”true” size=”small” group=”” align=”left”]I became an official SAHM right after my hysterectomy almost 6 years ago. That’s 9 months after Kennedy was born, 6 months before her CF diagnosis. 6 years.
These days I’ve become more WAHM than SAHM…not that I’m raking in the dough, but between my writing and all of the activities and opportunities this blog is drawing in for me – I’m always doing something (even when that something involves sitting on my arse and typing away at the computer for hours on end).
The problem I’ve had since I became a SAHM is that there’s always been someone under foot. I adore my kids, I love my husband – but I have trouble focusing and getting anything done when there’s people under foot.
Basically what I’m trying to say is my house was a clusterf***-aw, you know – of clutter. We are pack rats, and we have a small house. That equates to more clutter than I care to share. Usually about once or twice a year I do a massive overhaul and things are gorgeous for a while…but then real life climbs in and it’s a pit again.
These days things are running a bit more smoothly.
Three kids – all of them in all day school.
From 8-2:30 I am unimpeded.
I’m still adjusting to the schedule and figuring out how to plan out my day better…but the clutter is lessening. I had my massive house purging last month which got me started off on the right foot. There’s still plenty to be done…but things are getting done.
I can work – blog, edit, write – and clean and still have time left over to just enjoy the quiet…or run an errand without panicking that I only have a couple hours to get it done in.
Plus? Oh, the wonderful plus?
I have more patience with my kids. Granted I’m still not Glinda the Good Witch all the time….plenty of the Wicked Witch creeps in…but I’m getting better, calmer, and enjoying my time with them more.
You know what they say…absence makes the heart grow fonder…and the mommy saner.

School starts tomorrow for my kids. We did the school supply lists provided by the teachers. Pencils, pens, notebooks & more. Spent hours in the store fighting the crowd of other parents and realizing that the store was sold out of quite a few needed items. In the end, headaches abounded and we headed home.
Of course, that only got us the necessities the SCHOOL declared necessary.
I still had three kids to make happy. What makes kids happy for school? Getting all the clothes considered ‘cool’. The most important requirement for a new school year.
Which I find hilarious considering at Christmas they all sneer at the ‘clothing box’ shaped presents. What is it about the new school year that makes buying clothes more than acceptable when any other time you dare to buy clothes you’re the devil?
Ah well, my favorite part about shopping for clothes that we don’t have to fight the stores. The teenager doesn’t want me to ‘help’ him shop for nothing, my girls are chaos in a store and I know their sizes.
Online I can find great deals, clothes on clearance that have been wiped out at the stores (believe me I’ve tried).
I can get ‘cool’ clothes for my kids that they pick out (like the “Awesome” shirt above – tailor made for the teens level of attitude and confidence…and the adorable dress over here -> that fits with my girls obsession with dresses, both at Old Navy).
So easy, convenient and doesn’t waste my gas driving into town for a stress filled afternoon of attempting to shop with a teen and two girls – one of whom gets over-stimulated in our backyard and is oh-so-fun when we get to crowded stores.
My kids are happy. I’m far less stressed, and saved a few bucks.
No wonder I’m addicted to the internets 😉

I’ve taken to calling myself the Reluctant Hoosier because when I first moved here my freshman year of high school I loudly proclaimed then, and for years to follow, that I would never ever be a Hoosier.
In my old(er) age I’m softening to the Hoosier State. With every new thing I learn about the state, the more I come to love it.
Like the sheer number of food and livestock grown and produced right here in Indiana. It’s staggering, and it makes me proud that so many farmers are working hard to keep our nation fed with healthy meat and produce.
DigIN is a great way to meet some of the farmers, and many of the local businesses that not only run locally, but buy locally.
Indiana Family of Farmers is playing chef at the event and wants to give you TWO tickets to come see (and taste) the Heartland on August 26, 2012 at White River State Park.
I’m going to make it even easier than usual to win, just two ways to enter.
- Visit the DigIN site and leave a comment here telling me what part of the Event you’d like to “dig in” to.
- Tweet about my giveaway w/ a tag to me (@sadiecass) and leave a comment here saying you did so.
That’s it!
Giveaway ends on Tuesday, August 14 at 10:59PM. Winner will be contacted first thing August 15th & will have 24 hours to reply or I will pick another winner.

*Disclaimer: As an Indiana Family of Farmers Ambassador I received two free tickets to DigIN. As always, all opinions and reluctance to be called a Hoosier are all mine.
