I make no secret of my geek status.
I wear it proudly.
What makes me even more proud is when my kids show their geek.
Begging for movies that only proud geeks would watch instead of yet another re-watching of an animated story.
So when I got wind of the Indiana State Museum’s Star Wars®: Where Science Meets Imagination exhibit? I knew we had to go.
And thanks to this awesome job I have…I got to go to a special preview of the Millennium Falcon ride with the great group of local bloggers I’ve been privileged to be a part of.
And?
It. Was. Awesome!!
The 4-D effect of the ride, sitting in he cockpit and feeling the ship jump into lightspeed and rock and bump, the shock of space objects crossing close by. was amazing.
On top of that, we had storm troopers and sand people to help take the experience to the next level.
In just a few weeks this incredible exhibit is going to open for real, and I cannot wait to take my kids! It’s just one of those rare activities that is great for both adults and kids. There are definitely not enough of those around, we tend to try to soak them all up.

It has been far too long since I participated in SHS. I’ve missed it, and I’ve missed using my camera. I’m feeling a little rusty, but overall, I’m glad to be back and loving the photos I captured in the chaos of my week. I have so many more to share in coming days, but I limited myself for SHS. No quotes this week because it’s 2AM and I should be sleeping.
All taken w/ Canon Rebel XS.

So Because, dude…DUH.
Oh, and because I get to go to this awesome Star Wars experience at the Indiana State Museum…and a costume party and…oh yeah.
I’m a total geek.
We have 4 versions of the original trilogy on DVD, and still have the VHS tapes somewhere, too.
Our kids are quite well versed in Star Wars.
If you’re in Indy – you have to go.
If you’re not? Be jealous.
Be very jealous.
Millennium Falcon, here I come!

GIVEAWAY CLOSED – WINNER SELECTED
Are you a foodie?
Are you a wanna-be-foodie?
Do you love watching the cooking shows – even better, the cooking competition shows?
Ever fancy yourself a judge on one of those?
Do you like helping out awesome causes like Gleaners Food Bank?
For the second year, Indy is pairing up chefs with local farmers for a cooking competition for Zest ‘n Zing.
And they’ll be picking an audience member to be a judge!
Oooh, and it’s being emcee’d by the Weather Man – Paul Poteet and Jennie Runevitch of WTHR.
I know, I sound a little fan-girl here, but I’m really excited for the opportunity to go to this event, and even more so that I get to give one of you a pair of tickets to go! That’s right, I’m not just talking about the event, I’m inviting you to join me! (Thanks to Indiana’s Family of Farmer’s!!)
So before I give you tickets, here’s the nitty-gritty details of the event.
*~*
Zest ‘n Zing: A Foodie Event for the At-Home Chef
What it is: Two teams, each made up of a chef and a farmer, go head-to-head to create a great new dish. The winning chef receives $500.
When it is: May 7, 2013. Doors open at 5PM, the competition begins about 7PM.
Where it is: Eugene and Marilyn Glick Indiana History Center
Cost: $20 online – and all proceeds go to benefit GLEANERS! Seriously. How awesome is that?
*~*
So, you want a pair of free tickets to this event, right? I know you do, because it’s awesome.
So I’m going to make it easy on you. All it takes to win is one comment.
For that comment, I want you to just tell me what you’re most excited about for the event? Is it the good food? The thrill of competition? The possibility of being a judge? Or meeting the farmers that will be there?
The Giveaway will end at 9PM on Tuesday, April 30th. I’ll contact the winner by midnight through email. You’ll have only 24 hours to respond before I draw another name so I can get the name to IFOF.
*~*~*~*
Disclaimer: I am an IFOF Ambassador and therefore this is a sponsored post. I’ll get the same Zest ‘N Zing tickets as the winner does. However, while I do blog for good food, good company, and good competition – I don’t sell my opinions. All thoughts and opinions expressed in the post are my own.
by Sarah | Apr 21, 2013 | All About Learning, Blogging Life, Earth Day Indiana, Indiana Family of Farmers
My kids in school every year learn something about Earth Day.
Most often, I’m brought home acres of paper about the importance of recycling (which I find ironic), and usually a planted seed of some form.
It never feels like enough.
This year there is a great event we plan on attending.
Earth Day Indiana is on April 27th from 11AM-4PM at White River State Park.
It’s FREE.
Did you hear that part?
FREE.
Over 130 exhibits from cleaner fuel to wildlife protection will span the event. With all of that, there has to be something that will suit everyone in your family.
One of the proud sponsors of the event – Indiana’s Family of Farmers – will have two booths at the event.
The ever-popular “Wheel of Ag” encourages visitors to learn more about how Indiana’s farm families work hard on their farms to be good stewards of our land. A variety of farm families from across the state will be on hand to answer questions about their farms.
Then, in the Children’s Tent, IFOF will help kids plant popcorn in biodegradable CowPots to celebrate the “Year of Popcorn” at the Indiana State Fair. How fun is that? I know my girls will be totally excited to plant popcorn!
So if you’re in Indy, pack up the family and head out for the event. There’s going to be so much to do, you’ll be disappointed when the day is over.

*Disclaimer: This post was sponsored by the IFOF. As an IFOF Ambassador I receive compensation for this post. As always, my opinions are quite certainly my own as I would only willingly trade in my true thoughts for about a gazillion dollars and a private island supplied with wifi, a stocked library, and my own personal plastic surgeon (so my lazy butt wouldn’t have to work or diet for that better body I dream of). I can promise, none of that was supplied in this case.

I’ve been hit by a truck…did anyone get the license number?
Okay, not really, but it sure feels like it.
Last month, [amazon_link id=”B00BEMN5SC” target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]Changing Tracks[/amazon_link] released.
Last week [amazon_link id=”1938397495″ target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]HerStory[/amazon_link] with my short story An Uncivil War within it released.
I got new contracts in the past couple of months.
I’ve started new stories.
I have spent the past month writing dozens of blog posts – for other blogs. The writing side of my blog has taken off with dozens of guest authors and book releases and the writing meme’s I participate in.
In some ways I feel like I’ve been surgically attached to my computer.
Therefore not living.
Therefore having little to write about.
Yet so much to write about.
Like my Straight A Student.
My advanced reader.
My blossoming introvert.
But when I sit down to write it, I find myself just enjoying a moment of peace.
Soon the whirlwind will ease up for a little while. Edits for Masked Hearts are done. It doesn’t release until at least mid-April (I think). I’m almost done with the blog tour for Changing Tracks, and won’t be spending hours writing posts for others.
I’ve missed this blog and feel guilty every day I don’t post. Hopefully soon I’ll be bustling with posts again…and will pre-write as many as I can for the next book-tour rush so I don’t neglect this one so much.
And now that the weather shows signs of turning – I might just be more apt to go outside for a while. You know, remember how to have a life again.
