Four and a half stars for this story of love lost and redemption.
Lucy Flint didn’t just do wrong, she took her life and crumpled it up and threw it in the wastebasket, stompd on it and doused it with lighter fluid before setting it aflame.
She really did wrong, but she comes home as part of her 12 steps program to apologize for the wrong. As if she didn’t know it already, life proves that amends are not easy to make and the few people she must apologize to are not going to forgive her.
The harder lesson is that broken hearts don’t mean that love is dead.
Dr. Richard Hunter is a good guy that did his best to make a good life after Lucy ripped out his heart. He got his career, and married the girl he was “supposed to”. Life still hasn’t made the path he should have followed easy and he finds himself separated from his ‘perfect’ wife. Last thing he needs is Lucy literally crashing back into his life and turning it on his head. He swore to never forgive her, and he still plans on the same.
Love, time, and healing show them neither are the person they were then.
Some people would rather have revenge and make amends. Lucy has some tough choices to make – will she go back to the bottle or run?
I loved the ups and downs, the emotional turmoil, and the not so easy resolution of the couple. Lucy’s home life with her mother and ailing father paintd a vivid picture of who she was and how things turned out the way they did, but also supplied a path to healing.
Nothing was “Easy” about this book, it ripped your guts out a few times. The sex (and near sex) was hotter than hell. All in all I really loved it. I am really looking forward to book 2…

In this evocative new series from author Sarah Hegger, a woman returns home after a long absence—and wonders if two wrongs really can make a right…
Nine years ago Lucy Flint ran away to Seattle, taking her friend’s boyfriend and leaving her high school sweetheart without a word of explanation. Now she’s back in Willow Park, Illinois, to help care for her ailing father—and it’s no surprise that her ex, Dr. Richard Hunter, is still angry.
Still, she’s a different Lucy now. Sober, wiser, ready to make amends to the long—make that very long—list of those she mistreated during her wild younger days. Falling for Richard all over again would mean wreaking havoc in both their lives and possibly squandering her opportunity for redemption. Born British and raised in South Africa, Sarah Hegger suffers from an incurable case of wanderlust. Her match? A hot Canadian engineer, whose marriage proposal she accepted six short weeks after they first met. Together they’ve made homes in seven different cities across three different continents (and back again once or twice). If only it made her multilingual, but the best she can manage is idiosyncratic English, fluent Afrikaans, conversant Russian, pigeon Portuguese, even worse Zulu and enough French to get herself into trouble.
Mimicking her globe-trotting adventures, Sarah’s career path began as a gainfully employed actress, drifted into public relations, settled a moment in advertising, and eventually took root in the fertile soil of her first love, writing. She also moonlights as a wife and mother. She currently lives in Draper, Utah, with her teenage daughters, two Golden Retrievers and aforementioned husband. Part footloose buccaneer, part quixotic observer of life, Sarah’s restless heart is most content when reading or writing books.

New York City, 2025: Everything is changed. The city that never sleeps is now a land of death and decay. A rampant virus has taken over and the survivors have become carriers, quarantined from the rest of the world.
Twist and Dodger grew up in the streets, the sewers and underground tunnels – their playground. They aren’t heroes. They just like attention; and stealing meds from the rich and giving them to the poor is their golden ticket.
On their latest raid, they unknowingly steal a cure that puts them square between the ailing Emperor of Manhattan and the war hungry Governor of Brooklyn and forces them on a quest into the darkest shadows of their putrefying world.

I was up and down on my rating of this one. The beginning was so slow I almost didn’t keep going on. I have 2 ereaders and bookshelves full of books that need read. Still, I pushed on and the action picked up, which made the reading go a lot faster.
The characters were ones I never really found myself pulling for or ‘liking’. They were products of their situation and I’m not sure I was supposed to ‘like’ them – but that did make it hard for me to rate it higher. In the end the pace of the story pulled me in and I did see character growth throughout the story.
The world building was good, and set the dark mood of the world they live in quite well. There were unbelievable parts of the dystopian world built, and the technique of everyone stays behind the fence because they’re told to was predictable. Still, I like how the city has fallen in disarray and the factions are separated.
The ending, while confusing, did draw me in and make me curious about the rest of the series, which a good series set up does. So in the end, I gave it three stars and will keep an eye on the rest of the series. Maybe my rating will change after that 😉

I almost put down this book after the first chapter. There was too much info dump and a room full of testosterone laced men. I understand the need to fill in us newbies in the midst of a series (I have not read the first two books) – but I just wanted the meat of the story.
I’m glad I didn’t. Once the heroine finally got in the picture and we got to the meat of the story I got good and caught up in the story. The sex scenes were setting my kindle on fire and the chemistry between the characters was great!
Love how Jennessy saw beneath the surface to realize Sax was only fooling himself into believing he couldn’t be monogamous.

The courageous men of USA Today bestselling author Tina Wainscott’s Justiss Alliance series never give up and never make a promise they can’t live up to—especially when love is on the line.
The only commitment Saxby Cole has ever made is to the SEALs. He follows a long line of Southern charmers who swear monogamy isn’t in their blood. He’s never met a woman who made him want to swear his allegiance—until, while undercover for a Justiss Alliance assignment, he finds a woman who makes him think twice.
When Jennessy Shaw’s boyfriend dumps her right before their vacation to a hedonistic Caribbean resort, she goes without him to explore her wild side. Throwing caution to the wind, she propositions Saxby—only to suffer his gentle rejection.
When she wakes in Saxby’s room with no memory of the night before, Jennessy discovers his real purpose: to sniff out an operation where women like her are drugged and prostituted to resort guests. She goes from victim to his investigative partner . . . but getting too close to the sexier-than-sin Saxby may be her wildest move yet.

The author of more than thirty novels and novellas, Wainscott creates characters with baggage, past hurts, and vulnerabilities. They go through hell, find love, and, at the end, find peace in who they are and everything they’ve gone through. And isn’t that what everyone wants?

I have been really excited to bring you this review. I asked to review Ascension on a whim, not even sure what I’d get. In the end, I haven’t regretted it one second.
For me, Ascension receives a good, solid four and a half stars.
Belinda is a heroine that made me happy on so many levels. She was strong, self-sufficient, and didn’t take any BS from anyone. In an age when women were supposed to be soft of body and mind, she’d grown hard after an attack by demons exposed her to a world unlike any she’d known before. While her fiance was off fighting in the war, she begins fighting her own war at home & by the time he returns, neither of them are the same. She worries he’d never accept what she’s become and tries to push him away…but can’t deny the age-old burning attraction between them.
I loved Belinda. So much.
However my true heart belongs to Gabriel. He comes home to a fiancee foreign to him in many ways, but he refuses to let go of his love for her. When he learns what she’s doing there are so many things you would expect a hero to do–but Gabriel does none of them. Even though he’s worried for her and doesn’t want to lose her to a brutal death by demon, he supports her need to do so, in fact he joins in the fight.
He admits his fears, but supports her anyway. He is the ultimate hero. I love him so much. So very much. I want a Gabriel of my own, can I please?
The story lagged for me a little in the middle, but then picked back up, and that’s the only reason for the cutting of half a star.
Overall, this has been one of my favorite reads of the year, and I can’t wait to see more from A.S. Fenichel!

When demons threaten London, Lady Belinda answers the call.
Lord Gabriel Thurston returns home from war to find his fiancée is not the sweet young girl he left behind. She’s grown into a mysterious woman who guards her dark secrets well. When he sees her sneaking away from a ball, he’s convinced it’s for a lover’s rendezvous. Following her to London’s slums, Gabriel watches in horror as his fiancée ruthlessly slays a man.
Lady Belinda Carlisle’s only concern was her dress for the next ball—until demons nearly killed her and changed everything. A lady by day, and a demon hunter by night, she knows where her duty lies. Ending her betrothal is the best way to protect Gabriel from death by a demon’s hand.
Gabriel soon realizes, like him, Belinda has been fighting for her country. He joins in the fight, determined to show her that their love can endure, stronger than ever.

Four & A Half Stars
First Impression has the rare distinction of impressing me. The blurb had me really curious, and the cover is fabulous…but I’ve been let down before and caught in the “typical” YA stream of consciousness that forms a book.
This one did have a little romance. It had some mystery. It had ghosts (done well). It had a frickin’ owl, people. An OWL. Not just any owl, an AWESOME owl.
Chira was totally relatable for me. She’s picked on, but has one really good friend. People don’t hate her, but she has a stigma around her because of an early rumor (the root of which is exposed during the book).
We meet Ben early on and he’s not-surprisingly a mystery. The one thing Chira notices about him is that he wears colored contacts – to make his eyes brown. Her curiosity over that finds room.
Of course, Ben is smokin’. There’s not the instant “OMG, I must have him and all else dies.” Chira is attracted, and makes some attempts at flirting, but her life goes on, and her BFF drags her along for the ride on this mission to check out the old abandoned, and haunted, schoolhouse is when things start to take a turn.
The mystery kicks off, and the revelations start to fly. I can’t go into it too much without divulging some serious spoilers into the story. All I’ll say is Pauline handles the lore, the mystery, and the high-paced action really well. Once I got to 33% I couldn’t stop and ended up staying up until about 3AM in order to finish. I couldn’t put it down until I knew what was going on.
Did I guess? I made lots of guesses, but the author threw in plenty of surprises for me. What’s better is she set off a surprise twist on the relationship front that leaves me wondering what will happen in book 2. One mystery is resolved, but I have so many more questions and hope there’s plans for more ASAP.
And anytime a book leaves me wanting more, it’s a win. I want more of Chira and Ben, and the rest of the (surviving) characters!

When a crippled young lord rescues a girl falling from a tree, it reveals a secret about himself and his mother’s side of the family that could put him at the center of a war with beings he thought only existed in fairy tales. Tristan Gareth Smyth lived his entire life stuck at home at Waverly Park and left behind while his Grandfather makes trips to London, all because of his blasted wheelchair. Then an American heiress falls in his lap, literally, and he must find a way to keep her at a distance to protect not only his secret, but everyone around him from an assassin sent to kill him.
Darkness can be overcome…
Terminally ill Lynette Lamb is forced to reunite her wayward son and grandson. Her options are as limited as her strength and mobility. Through a fateful series of events, the rejoined pair will leave Earth to become part of a colony orbiting a new planet. Sam Austin and his wife mourn the loss of their only child and decide to make a fresh start at the space station. The same ship holds the one who will fulfill the dark planet’s prophecy, but a demonic force boards to stop the vessel. The demon’s obedient but unwilling servant is sent on a suicide mission to keep the ship from reaching its destination.
Chira Kelly thought she didn’t need anyone…until she met Ben.
Because of one ugly rumor, Chira lives as an outcast at her school. Which is fine with her, because she works better alone. Always has, always will. And at least she has her one and only true friend, Tasha. When Tasha insists that they join a group to visit a possibly haunted abandoned old schoolhouse, she’s wary, but joins her friend. Because of that decision, their lives are in jeopardy as a malevolent spirit targets the group. Tragedies and accidents pick them off one by one, and Chira finds herself drawn to the one person who can see the truth. But can he protect her?

What if the enticing man who has just seized your every sense enlightens you to realms beyond our dimension? Can that spark of love withstand a war to protect mankind? Kairos: An Enmortals Series Novel by K. J. Coakley is the spellbinding novel that reveals that the deepest love need not be confined to the trappings of one world.
The first in a series of paranormal romances, Kairos swirls in mankind, magic, and mythology as it chronicles the first blush of yearning between Sulwen Macgregor, a shy and sheltered college senior, and Logan Thatcher, a mesmerizing former playboy with arresting good looks, an offbeat sense of humor, and an ironclad moral code. When the two meet, Sulwen has no inkling that she soon will embark on an odyssey that not only exposes Logan as other than mortal, but uncovers astonishing aspects of her own being as well.
As Logan saves Sulwen from fast-approaching peril, the two must discover if their love is truly without bounds and strong enough to fend off adversaries far more craven than they ever could fathom. With wild imagination, otherworldly passion, and heart-pumping action, Kairos goes where no human being has dared, all in the name of love.

EXCERPT
I stand up and take his hand. He leads us
into a remote corner on the dance floor. The DJ has been switching it up
between techno and remixed pop, but I don’t mind. It has a good beat, and I can
feel my muscles warming up as I start to work my body with the rhythm. I raise
my arms and place them around his neck and scoot closer to him. My body is
rubbing against his with blatant carnality. I can play this game too, as long
as I don’t have to speak. My body is drawn to his, so it’s no effort to let my
wanton moves carry me away with the song.
“Logan. The name’s Logan Thatcher. No
more disadvantages. We’re on a level playing field, and I must say I’m enjoying
the game immensely.”
I turn my back to him and swing my arms
back over his head and secure my fingers behind his neck. He hisses between his
teeth as my ass bumps his groin. I purposely do it again and nudge his slightly
erect penis with the cleft of my ass. A current tingles through my body at the
contact.
I close my eyes and sink into an erotic
dance. My body slithers over his like a snake up a tree. I can’t stand any
distance between us. I want to touch him, feel his hard muscles beneath his
velvety skin, and bask in his growing erection as I brazenly press myself
against him. His breathing has picked up, and he begins to run his hands up the
sides of my thighs and under the hem of my dress. He goes no farther but teases
my senses with feather-light touches, and then he runs a hand up the back of my
thigh and squeezes my ass…hard. I gasp in surprise, but the move only heightens
my desire.
“You’re playing with fire, brave one. I
may not be an animal, but I’m still a man, and you are provoking a hunger so
strong it’s all I can do to keep from driving myself deep within you,” he
growls in my ear. His warm breath on my skin sends an electric jolt down my
neck and across my belly. My womb clenches as moisture gathers between my legs.
His hand is now massaging my bottom, while his other one climbs up my stomach
and skims across my breasts, brushing up against my hard nipples, and pulling a
strangled gasp from my lips.
“Logan. What are you doing to me?” I say
breathlessly. I’m shocked by my voice. It sounds so husky and leaden with lust.
He places both hands on my hips and pulls me into his fully erect cock. He’s
thick, hard, and ready for what I would willingly give.
Blunt teeth graze my neck where it meets
my shoulder and work their way back up, nibbling on my sensitive flesh.
Masculine hands press into my hips, working down my belly to the apex of my
thighs. I inhale sharply at the contact and tremble in his arms. A throaty
chuckle next to my ear melts any defenses I have left.
His warm breath is doing amazing things
to the delicate shell of my ear. Hot and moist, his tongue slowly licks up the
skin behind my ear and then slowly works back down. A hard shudder works
through me as the burn building between my legs mounts to a frustrating peak. I
need release, and I want it now.
His right hand trails a path under my
skirt and up around my behind. At the first contact, I nearly jump from his
arms, but he has me held securely against his rock-hard body. My back is to
him, his arm like a vice around my waist, while the other works its way into my
panties.
My eyes are closed to everything around
me. The darkness alludes to a false sense of privacy. I can’t hear anything but
his breathing. I can’t feel anything but the rocking motion of my hips as my
body strains for contact with his. I feel a sharp tug, and my panties fall…
