Secret Cravings Western Romance Blog Hop

WesternHop

Welcome to the Secret Cravings Western Romance Blog Hop! This hop is a great way to meet

I’m a sucker for a good Western Romance. Be it historical or contemporary I like a good cowboy.

Then again, I also love a good American Indian. Don’t you? I have written them into many of my stories, but it’s in Masked Hearts that they jump to the forefront. After much research, I wrote a story about a survivor of the Bear River Massacre that was adopted into a less than idea life with a dim future, until the past comes back and ends up saving her.

Today I’m giving you a chance to win an ebook copy of Masked Hearts and a $5 Amazon Gift Card.

Use the rafflecopter options below to enter! Then head back to the Secret Cravings blog to enter more giveaways – including the grand prize of a $25 Amazon Gift Card!

Minnie Woodward lives a lie. After barely surviving the Bear River Massacre she’s lived in the white world of her guardian Mister Rawlins, her life debt keeping her tied there. The last thing she needs is Roy’s attempts to gain her favor. Her fate’s sealed. She’s never believed in hope, and not even Roy can make her start.

Roy Ornum saves Minnie every night in the traveling Wild West show. The job he took to break his gambling habit brought him a new addiction – her. He knows she doesn’t want to be rescued, but maybe he does. She’s the key to a past he lost, one he wants to find again.

As the two grow closer old wounds are reopened and their burgeoning trust is shattered. When lives hang in the balance of their choices they’ll need to work together. Otherwise everything will be lost before hope can be found.

Michaela O’Keefe is in over her head with her restaurant, The Midway.  Her ad for an assistant manager brings Owen “Tag” Montague to her doorstep. With an impeccable resume and dozens of letters of recommendation, she has little choice but to give him a chance. Ten years her junior, Tag sets her long-dead libido humming, but she gave up on love and her instincts on men years ago.

Tag has had a crush on his new boss since his youth, but he’s determined to prove he can do the job. Still, he can’t resist the urge to make her blush down to her toes as often as possible. He knows her rough past in life and love makes it hard to trust, and he’s wary of crossing the line he so desperately wants to.

Just when they manage to figure out how to work and play together, Michaela’s ex does all he can to destroy their budding love. When push comes to shove Michaela’s inability to give Tag the benefit of the doubt might destroy everything.

Learning to trust herself again is the hardest lesson Michaela will ever have to learn – and by the time she does, it may be too late for love.

5* Goodreads Revew:

This is a well written, sweet read about loving and healing. Owen is loving and dedicated to healing Michaela’s damaged and battered heart. Michaela’s walls are no match for Owen’s patience and understanding.

Craving Cowboys – Blog Hop & #Giveaway

westernbloghopOh goody, a blog hop just for the cowboys. ~sigh~

I could wax poetic for hours about what I love about a cowboy.

Because there’s plenty.

But I’m short on time this weekend, as I’m working on a series with the cowboy’s “opposite” in culture…Indians. 😉

So I’m going to make this real easy on you folks.

My Dominion Falls series has a bad-boy that can handle horses (Cole) – he’s the go-to horse trainer in town, even over Archie, who owns the livery.

It also has a good boy cowboy-turned miner (David).  He’s so good he’ll make your teeth hurt with his sweetness.

In order to win an ebook copy of both books (so far) in my Dominion Falls series* you just need to answer a simple question…

Which side of the coin do you prefer?  The good ol’ boy, David – or the bad-boy Cole?

It’s that easy!

(Giveaway ends Sunday night, the 14th @11:30PM EST Winner will be emailed and have 48 hours to respond or I’ll pick another winner)

For more giveaways on the hop, head on over to the Secret Cravings Publishing blog to find them! (or just click on that picture up there, it’ll take you to SCP too)

*Disclaimer: Winner will receive one ebook copy of Changing Tracks and Derailed. If winner has one or both books, we can discuss alternate options from gift cards to advance copy of book 3, Dark Territory or a copy of Masked Hearts.

The Outlaw Lawman – and the Lawman Outlaw #Giveaway {CLOSED}

cowboys-and-lawmen-blog-hop-button

GIVEAWAY CLOSED – WINNER(S) CHOSEN & EMAILED

For me, there is just something about the lawman that toes the line between good and bad.

He has to be tough enough to put away the ‘bad guys’…but good enough to know right from wrong.  In other words, somewhere deep inside he has to have a conscious, even if it’s well masked.

Sometimes it’s an outlaw that makes a good lawman.

I’ve had a couple favorite sheriff’s in my TV western watching.

The Outlaw Lawman:

On Dr. Quinn…

~waits for the groans to end~

Yes. Dr. Quinn.  The gunslinger Kid Cole became sheriff for an episode.  Even for just one episode, he turned out to be the best Sheriff the town had (sorry, Matthew and Daniel fans…and even I, a Hank-lover have to admit he would have made a horrible sheriff).  I guess Kid Cole won the race because he knew the mind of an outlaw, but he had the temperance of years and the desire to just sit down in a quiet place and watch the roses grow.

The Lawman Outlaw:

Now my other favorite Lawman was Seth Bullock of Deadwood.

Not an outlaw, unless you count a politician as an outlaw ~cough~

Seth was a good man that settled into Deadwood after a bad turn as Sheriff in Helena, Montana.  Through a turn of circumstance, he ended up as sheriff of Deadwood.

Seth toed the line because of his willingness to sometimes overlook the wrong-doings of Al Swearengen for the eventual betterment of the town.

Far and above, though, his ability to overlook some wrong-doings, was Bullock’s temper.  He sure didn’t like being taken advantage of, and he certainly didn’t like being threatened or bribed.  It led to some all out brawls, and him removing his sheriff star once or twice.  He wanted to do good for the town, but sometimes he got in his own way.

ChangingTracks_LRGIn [amazon_link id=”B00BEMN5SC” target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]Changing Tracks (Dominion Falls Series book 1)[/amazon_link], there are a couple of sheriffs.  Outlaws and cowboys alike, they make their own impact on the town.  Are one of them my favorite kind of sheriff?  Well, you’d have to read it to find out.

And so, for the Cowboys and Lawmen Blog Hop, I’m Giving Away a copy of [amazon_link id=”B00BEMN5SC” target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]Changing Tracks (Dominion Falls Series Book 1)[/amazon_link].

To enter, just leave a comment and tell me what your favorite sort of lawman is in your westerns?  Do you like the Outlaw Lawman, or the Lawman Outlaw?

Beauty is not Skin Deep #Giveaway #BlogHop

beastlybloghop

Welcome to the Beastly Birthday Blog Hop!  Kerrianne Coombes is celebrating the 1st birthday of her demon tales, and a whole lot of us are joining in the fun!  There’s more info at the bottom of my post on how to win, and where to go.

For me, true beauty has never been about physical appearance. I mean, sure, we all like to look at the pretty package. The attractive hero with the rock hard abs (say hello to Cole…my hero from [amazon_link id=”B00BEMN5SC” target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]Changing Tracks[/amazon_link]…he’s the one with those abs…~sigh~), the heroine with the flaxen hair, fair eyes.

I like to always go beyond looks.  Often in my books you’ll find descriptions of characters sparse. You get Cole and Jane’s hair and eye color (I have a weakness for eyes), you’re told that Jane has a tiny waist, Cole has good musculature and is super tall – but I let most of the rest to your imagination.

I do the same in Masked Hearts – with a small twist.

MaskedHearts_MEDMy heroine is deeply scarred.  Physically as well as emotionally.

Right on the cover you see the scars lining her back, set into her flesh in her youth.

When you first meet her, she comes across as harsh, cold.  Soon after we get a glimpse to what’s hiding underneath those scars.

Despite her physical appearance, I think Minnie is one of the most beautiful characters I’ve written.  Years of pain and protecting herself have built up walls to hide a sense of humor, a deep soul, and a warm heart.

Characters and people often speak for themselves.

Jackson Krenshaw in my Dominion Falls Series ([amazon_link id=”B00BEMN5SC” target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]Changing Tracks[/amazon_link]mostly), is handsome and wealthy, and one of the ugliest souls you’ll ever meet.  One of the only characters that actually sent a shiver of disgust down my spine as I wrote him – and I’ve written some dark stuff.

I like to write all kinds.  My characters all have flaws, some of them are deeply flawed and have to grow a lot to win your hearts.  Others start out wonderful and reveal darkness within that turn them ugly.  I don’t like safe, and I don’t like two dimensional cookie cutter characters.  Everyone has layers, even the worst villain, and I hope that I bring you all of those layers.
