Welcome back to the Weekend Writing Warriors!
I’m back with my travelling wild west show story, Masked Hearts.
Once again, skipping ahead a few paragraphs. Minnie doesn’t believe him, despite the details he knows. Plus, he’s pale, not dark or even tan.
Finally she puts forth one final challenge to test his story:
“I met that boy,” she whispered. One finger tapped against his heartbeat. “We played together for a summer.”
So he had known her–it wasn’t just an illusion or wishful thinking that he once knew this woman in front of him. “But you don’t recognize me?”
“If you remember, if you are truly the boy, what did I call you?”
“What?”
“I didn’t call you by your name–what did I call you?”

SYNOPSIS
What if the enticing man who has just seized your every sense enlightens you to realms beyond our dimension? Can that spark of love withstand a war to protect mankind? Kairos: An Enmortals Series Novel by K. J. Coakley is the spellbinding novel that reveals that the deepest love need not be confined to the trappings of one world.
The first in a series of paranormal romances, Kairos swirls in mankind, magic, and mythology as it chronicles the first blush of yearning between Sulwen Macgregor, a shy and sheltered college senior, and Logan Thatcher, a mesmerizing former playboy with arresting good looks, an offbeat sense of humor, and an ironclad moral code. When the two meet, Sulwen has no inkling that she soon will embark on an odyssey that not only exposes Logan as other than mortal, but uncovers astonishing aspects of her own being as well.
As Logan saves Sulwen from fast-approaching peril, the two must discover if their love is truly without bounds and strong enough to fend off adversaries far more craven than they ever could fathom. With wild imagination, otherworldly passion, and heart-pumping action, Kairos goes where no human being has dared, all in the name of love.

EXCERPT
I stand up and take his hand. He leads us
into a remote corner on the dance floor. The DJ has been switching it up
between techno and remixed pop, but I don’t mind. It has a good beat, and I can
feel my muscles warming up as I start to work my body with the rhythm. I raise
my arms and place them around his neck and scoot closer to him. My body is
rubbing against his with blatant carnality. I can play this game too, as long
as I don’t have to speak. My body is drawn to his, so it’s no effort to let my
wanton moves carry me away with the song.
“Logan. The name’s Logan Thatcher. No
more disadvantages. We’re on a level playing field, and I must say I’m enjoying
the game immensely.”
I turn my back to him and swing my arms
back over his head and secure my fingers behind his neck. He hisses between his
teeth as my ass bumps his groin. I purposely do it again and nudge his slightly
erect penis with the cleft of my ass. A current tingles through my body at the
contact.
I close my eyes and sink into an erotic
dance. My body slithers over his like a snake up a tree. I can’t stand any
distance between us. I want to touch him, feel his hard muscles beneath his
velvety skin, and bask in his growing erection as I brazenly press myself
against him. His breathing has picked up, and he begins to run his hands up the
sides of my thighs and under the hem of my dress. He goes no farther but teases
my senses with feather-light touches, and then he runs a hand up the back of my
thigh and squeezes my ass…hard. I gasp in surprise, but the move only heightens
my desire.
“You’re playing with fire, brave one. I
may not be an animal, but I’m still a man, and you are provoking a hunger so
strong it’s all I can do to keep from driving myself deep within you,” he
growls in my ear. His warm breath on my skin sends an electric jolt down my
neck and across my belly. My womb clenches as moisture gathers between my legs.
His hand is now massaging my bottom, while his other one climbs up my stomach
and skims across my breasts, brushing up against my hard nipples, and pulling a
strangled gasp from my lips.
“Logan. What are you doing to me?” I say
breathlessly. I’m shocked by my voice. It sounds so husky and leaden with lust.
He places both hands on my hips and pulls me into his fully erect cock. He’s
thick, hard, and ready for what I would willingly give.
Blunt teeth graze my neck where it meets
my shoulder and work their way back up, nibbling on my sensitive flesh.
Masculine hands press into my hips, working down my belly to the apex of my
thighs. I inhale sharply at the contact and tremble in his arms. A throaty
chuckle next to my ear melts any defenses I have left.
His warm breath is doing amazing things
to the delicate shell of my ear. Hot and moist, his tongue slowly licks up the
skin behind my ear and then slowly works back down. A hard shudder works
through me as the burn building between my legs mounts to a frustrating peak. I
need release, and I want it now.
His right hand trails a path under my
skirt and up around my behind. At the first contact, I nearly jump from his
arms, but he has me held securely against his rock-hard body. My back is to
him, his arm like a vice around my waist, while the other works its way into my
panties.
My eyes are closed to everything around
me. The darkness alludes to a false sense of privacy. I can’t hear anything but
his breathing. I can’t feel anything but the rocking motion of my hips as my
body strains for contact with his. I feel a sharp tug, and my panties fall…

Welcome back to the Weekend Writing Warriors!
I’m back with my travelling wild west show story, Masked Hearts.
Skipping ahead just a few paragraphs. Last week Roy asked Minnie of an Indian woman and a white fur trapper she knew had a child, a son. Minnie admitted they did. In what you missed, Roy began to go into detail about Chief Bear Hunter, who met the army for negotiations and was held until the boy was released into Army custody, because the Army believed him to be a white man’s nephew (whose entire family, except some children, were killed by Shoshone).
Minnie asks how he knows such details:
“Uncle Zacheus beat me if I cried, if I said I remembered my parents. He said the memories weren’t real over and over until I started to believe him.” Roy got to his feet and moved closer to Minnie, “But I remember my father…and my Indian mother.”
Tears slipped down her cheeks. “Why are you telling me these stories? They aren’t the truth. Lying to me won’t make me like you.”
“It’s not a lie.”

Welcome back to Tuesday Tales! This weeks prompt is to be inspired by this picture. As always with word prompts, we were restricted to 300 words. I managed to come in right under count at 297.
This week’s prompt fell into my current WIP for the Holidays in Lake Point series, Witch Way.
Felicity walked along the outside of the circle. With great care she set a candle at the northernmost point, a safe distance from the nearby tall dry grasses of the rest of the small clearing. “Earth.” Above the candle she set a moonstone to represent the element.
She followed the arc to the eastern edge where she placed another candle they’d made themselves. The feathers dancing along the outside of the wax representing their element. “Air.”
“Fire.” To the south she set a red candle that needed no further help for its element. To the west she set another candle, and her aunt arrived out of the woods just in time with the small wooden bowl filled with water from the creek. “And water.”
In the middle of the circle she set the final candle for spirit and sighed. After her date, Patty had insisted on a small ritual to help clear Felicity’s head. Although she knew this was for her, the doubts and fears plaguing her made her know success would be tough. “Can’t I sleep on it first, Patty? I don’t feel clear enough for this.”
“There is a full moon tonight, just look up there. The moon has always been your guide, you know this. How many nights did I find you wandering, trying to chase it through these hills?”
“I know. I’ve always felt that connection. I’m just tired and…”
“I’m glad to see you’re struggling with acceptance here, but you don’t have to do so alone.”
“I’ve learned at your knee, Patty. I’m not focused enough for this to do any good.”
Patty touched her head. “You’re not doing anything. I am doing this one all on my lonesome, you need to be grounded and cleansed. You’re a mess.”
“So I’ve noticed.”

Welcome back to the Weekend Writing Warriors!
I’m back with my travelling wild west show story, Masked Hearts.
Skipping ahead a little ways. After some hemming and hawing, Minnie agreed to speak with Roy if he woke early enough to avoid them being caught by Mister Rawlins. He did manage, and met her by the creek.
After a little struggle, Minnie revealed some of her past. In the course of conversation, Roy asked if there were sometimes white men and women were part of the tribe, as wife or husband, or the like. Minnie admitted there sometimes were, and when asked (by him) acknowledged that one of them was a fur trapper:
“Why do you ask such things? You said you’d tell me.”
“That fur trapper,” He had to force the words out; the cracking in his voice so unusual it drew Minnie’s intense gaze back to him. “Did he and the woman have a child? A son?”
Her brows drew together, a frown creasing her lips down, “Yes.”
“Was he taken away?”
“Why?”

by Sarah | Jul 8, 2014 | Books, General, Goals, Writing
I’m trying to be good and keep up on my 2014 forecast. June was a terrible month for me all around. For some reason when school let out, the world blew up. Still, I managed to accomplish a couple of goals and get a pretty good word count.
That being said, one of my goals last month was to revamp my goals since I’ve managed to finish quite a few in the first six months of the year.
So first, the overall goals. Not specific books, but all around goals..
- I’ve challenged myself to write 600,000 words in 2014. ( 323,517 WC as of 7/7/14 11:29PM)
- I will build my audience and work harder at promotion. I am not doing enough with this. Need to get out more.
- I will find focus (see below), and figure out how to USE it. I am working on this. Some days I do great, others not so much. Call me a work in progress.
- Plan 2015 Holidays in Lake Point series books. I have ideas jotted down, but nothing set in stone. I’ll also need to write the first 2015 book before I can submit anything.
- Plan 2015 book schedule. What I didn’t finish this year, plus others. Again, I have some ideas, but nothing solid. Some half-started ideas lingering in waiting for me to have time to write them.
And for my list of projects. This I’m not removing the completed items, because I like seeing how many are done, however I did remove a couple I had to backburner for pressing deadlines. Items in RED are complete. Items in ORANGE are in progress (or progress notes). Items in BLUE are new. Some of the new items are in blue with the progress I’ve made in orange.
- Runaway Train (Dominion Falls 5) – 113k
- Stalled Independence (Lake Point #3) – 35k
- Katherine’s Story (Dominion Falls Prequel) – 48k – Named finally. Independent Brake
- Into a Mirror Darkly (Morgana Chronicles 1) – 100k (~10k done)
- Witch Way (Lake Point #4) – 30k (10k done)
- A Thorough Thanksgiving (Lake Point #5) – 30k
- The Tribe (The Tribe #1) – 85k
- The Wolf (The Tribe #2) – 85k
- The Dead Past (Dominion Falls 6-temporary name) – 100k
- The Chief (The Tribe #3) – 85k
- The Raven (The Tribe #4) – 85k
- The Child (The Tribe #5) – 85k
- Escaping Humanity (Co-authoring w/ Mary Terrani) – 100k (22k done)
Right now my main focus is in my three series. Lake Point, Dominion Falls, and The Tribe. For Lake Point I have two more books to write and one to edit for release this year. Dominion Falls still has another to edit. Books 1 & 2 of The Tribe series are ready to be sent to my editor when they’re due, The Chief requires rewriting and The Raven needs to be written (although The Raven is not yet on our editing schedule). I’d love to get another Dominion Falls book or two out next year, but It’s at the bottom of the “do it now” list.
I’ve still got Escaping Humanity near the top, which I’m coauthoring. I love the book, but contracted deadlines are looming. Hoping to get some more written soon as Witch Way is done so I can hand it back to Mary for her next scenes.
Beyond that I’ve been dabbling in a few things for Tuesday Tales and here and there. I have too many deadlines looming to think past the immediate future.
Still, 2014 has been good for meeting goals so far. I hope the second half of the year is as successful.
