Hump Day Hook 54 – Santa, Maybe

SantaMaybe_MEDBack to Hump Day Hook!

So very close to release (and a giveaway)!!  So, here’s some more of Santa, Maybe.

Ivy is having lunch with her friend Eve, still stewing over the accusation of her daughter Justina’s parentage.  Eve points out that Justina’s real father did look similar to Alan:

“Then you could call it an honest mistake.”

“An honest mistake which managed to accuse me of being a horrible bitch that would keep a child from Alan.” Ivy shoved her glass away and sank down in her chair. While Eve was one of the few people that knew, and believed, the whole story, she still didn’t know everything. “I made a choice, but if it had been his child I never would have kept it from him. Justina could have been his, I was so full of hormones, we are very lucky the condom was sound.”

Eve giggled when a few heads turned their way. “You said that a little loud.”

Hump Day Hook 53 – Santa, Maybe

SantaMaybe_MEDBack to Hump Day Hook!

Back with my (first ever) contemporary romance, which will be releasing soon.

Ivy and Alan’s first meeting after eight years didn’t go so well. Alan learned Ivy had a daughter and assumed, because of the girls dark hair, that Ivy had kept his own child from him.  Ivy is furious that he made this assumption, that she would keep a child from him.  She, and his mother, have told Alan that the child was fathered by another man, Justin.  The man she was sort of dating the last time Alan and Ivy saw each other. Alan has come to ‘apologize’ but doesn’t do so well:

“And where is Justin? Why isn’t he defending himself?” Alan folded his arms across his chest.

The venom faded at the mention of Justin. She backed off and turned away. Angry as she was at him, she wasn’t about to let him see the grief she still carried. “He’s gone.”

“Convenient.”

She straightened her back. “No. It really isn’t.”

“Of course it is. For him.”

“He’s dead, you asshole. Get out of my studio.”

Hump Day Hook 52 – Santa, Maybe

SantaMaybe_MEDBack to Hump Day Hook!

So sad to leave behind my Dominion Falls series after so many weeks with it.  Don’t worry, it will return from time to time (I won’t ever let them go).

But, very soon my Christmas offering, and the first in my Holidays in Lake Point series will be released. Santa, Maybe came about thanks to a submission call and critiquing a friend of mine’s story ([amazon_link id=”B00DNMRWDK” target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]Ravenous[/amazon_link], check it out…so hot).  Blurb for this story will be below my hook.

Now, please meet Ivy and Alan.  Ivy is a former Prima Ballerina, and Alan is a big finance guy.  Once high school sweethearts turned on again-off again lovers…they haven’t seen each other since Ivy disappeared from Alan’s busy life completely eight years ago. In this scene, an old high school friend (Mary) has spotted Alan in the crowd at a Christmas celebration and cornered him.  She blindsides him with some unexpected information:

“Let me guess. You want to see Ivy?”

Ice rushed through his veins and he pinched his brows together. “I’m sorry. Did you say Ivy? You can’t mean Ivy Nowell.”

“Well who else would I mean?”

“But she’s in the city.” She had to be in the city. Last time he’d seen her had been eight years ago, but she’d still been at the peak of her career. Of course, shortly after that her name dropped off every program at her ballet company. …

Mary’s ponytail bobbed as she shook her head. “No, she’s not. Hasn’t been for about seven years. How could you not know that? When she returned without you, we assumed you’d split, maybe divorced.”

*To keep it short, I cut out a big portion of a paragraph.

Blurb:

Alan Richards returns to Lake Point for the holidays, counting the minutes until he can accomplish the dreaded goal of dealing with his aging parents and get back to the city.  Finding his former soul mate living in the town they left together and swore they’d never return to tosses his ordered plans right on their head.

Ivy Nowell has never looked back since she left the city and her ballet career to raise her daughter in Lake Point. Alan’s homecoming dredges up old hurts and the love she never quite let go, but he hasn’t changed, with his relentless commitment to goals that differ completely from hers.

The attraction and instant understanding between them lingers, but neither are who they used to be. Alan wants to give it a chance, but Ivy is worried he’ll change his mind and won’t risk hurting her daughter.

It’ll take Santa and all his magic to keep them from walking away from each other again, maybe for forever this time.

Hump Day Hook 49 – Dark Territory

DarkTerritory_MEDBack to Hump Day Hook!

Another week of [amazon_link id=”B00FE1AVOU” target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]Dark Territory[/amazon_link].

In a flattering turn, I’ve been asked for more books in the series by more than one source. I do have at least two more books plotted out (probably a third, maybe 4th) to continue Jane and Cole’s story…but I haven’t had a chance to finish rewriting them to my liking.

But as I’m working to make more intricate and exciting plots, I’m still bringing you another week or two of Dark Territory. After that I’ll probably start teasing you with either my short story or my Christmas release 😉

This week Cole is on a mission to recover the funds Jane hid in another territory, far from the mad-man, long before she lost her memory. In a convoluted plan, he has taken on another identity in order to withdraw what Jane believes is “a few thousand dollars” from the bank, which in 1871 is a ton of money in itself. The plan works, but he’s about to find out Jane was very wrong about something:

Cole gave a short nod, unwilling to give away his rate of tension. Once Louis stepped away from the desk, Cole leaned forward more to look in the folder. For a long minute he studied the initial signature for the account, relieved to see it was something he could easily copy.

He gave a quick glance to the number written at the bottom of the top sheet. His body went numb, and he slid back in his chair. Nerves threatened to bring back favorite habits, but he sat still. His jaw clenched tight, he stared at the desk before him. It was far easier than thinking too hard about the number he’d seen, $15,973.89.

Hump Day Hook 46 – Dark Territory

DarkTerritory_MEDAnother Hump Day Hook!

Another week of [amazon_link id=”B00FE1AVOU” target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]Dark Territory[/amazon_link].

Since I was MIA during the release of [amazon_link id=”B00FE1AVOU” target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]Dark Territory (The Dominion Falls Series book 3)[/amazon_link], what with my kid being in the hospital and life falling into general disarray and chaos…I have yet to have had a GIVEAWAY.

So today I’m having a giveaway!!  1 lucky commenter will win their choice of one of my Dominion Falls series books – or if they have them all, one of my others (I just had a horror short released in an anthology, too).

The giveaway will end on Friday night, October 18th at 11PM.

Now onto the hook.  Jane sees her brother again for the first time since her near-death by hanging. She reveals the depth of her pain:

“What is it?” Slowly he sank into the chair beside her again.

I remember everything about that day.

“You said that.”

Every time I close my eyes, it happens again. The nightmares are much more than nightmares. I remember it, over and over again. Have you ever had a nightmare in which you could not scream?
